Each of the four participating artists in the exhibition has their own specific spatial requirements to show their work at its best. The four artists share a space that is difficult to divide into four, and at the same time meets the demands of the work.
The starting point for this design is the multiform urban fabric of Rome, which I frequently studied during my period at the American Academy in Rome in 2015.
The urban fabric is rich and multiform, in particular on account of the specific requirements of buildings and the entrance spaces to certain functions. By considering the spaces of the artists in a similar manner, the leftover space formed by one artists generates the functional space of the next artist.
All the spaces are highly specific. Each artist has his or her own lighting, dimensions and form. In this way, the wall acts as a double-sided Roman hybrid. A succession of spaces with the wall acting as both a dividing and connecting element. With a number of spaces inside and a number outside the form.
